A full medical history is taken at the first session. The client is asked about current symptoms, treatments they have  received so far, their diet, the state of the body's systems, sleep patterns and emotional factors.

The pulses, abdomen and the tongue are also studied as this provides vital information about general health.

The assessment enables a treatment plan to be formulated and discussed with the client.

Treatment may involve lifestyle and dietary advice, massage, cupping, moxibustion as well as the use of fine stainless steel needles into acupuncture points.
